Sun
350 Bar Neck-Mount COPV
A 6.7-inch OD Type III composite overwrapped pressure vessel platform designed for neck-mounted integration, with four standard capacities from 6 to 18 liters.

Neck-mounted high-pressure storage
One diameter. Four standard volumes.
Sun maintains a 170 mm (6.7 in) outside diameter across 6L, 7.5L, 11L and 18L configurations, giving engineers a consistent envelope while scaling stored volume through vessel length.
Steelhead's supplied product data sheet identifies Sun as a Type III COPV using a 6061-T6 aluminum liner, carbon-composite structural layer and a fiberglass-composite external protective layer with clear epoxy coating.
350 Bar
Maximum service pressure of 350 bar / 5,077 psi.
6L–18L
Four standard capacities in one 6.7-inch OD product family.
15-Year Life
Service life stated in Steelhead's supplied product data sheet.
Technical data
Sun configurations
Dimensions, masses and operating data below are taken directly from Steelhead's supplied 6.7 in. OD 350 Bar Neck Mount COPV Product Data Sheet, Rev A.
| Nominal Volume | Length without Valves | Mass / Weight | Outside Diameter | Max Service Pressure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 L (1.6 gal) | 493 mm (19.4 in) | 5.4 kg (12 lb) | 170 mm (6.7 in) | 350 bar (5,077 psi) |
| 7.5 L (2.0 gal) | 640 mm (25.2 in) | 6.8 kg (15 lb) | 170 mm (6.7 in) | 350 bar (5,077 psi) |
| 11 L (2.9 gal) | 874 mm (34.4 in) | 9.5 kg (21 lb) | 170 mm (6.7 in) | 350 bar (5,077 psi) |
| 18 L (4.8 gal) | 1255 mm (49.4 in) | 12.7 kg (28 lb) | 170 mm (6.7 in) | 350 bar (5,077 psi) |
Custom volumes may be accommodated. Confirm current production drawings and approved configuration details with Steelhead before final system integration.
Ports & mounting
Designed around neck-mounted integration.
Standard Port Threads
M18×1.5 valve threads are the standard adapter option on both ports.
Optional Threads
5/8-inch threads are optional, with custom valve threads up to M25 (1 in) available on request.
Orientation
Horizontal and vertical vessel orientation are both identified as acceptable.
Why Sun
Flexible packaging without changing vessel diameter.
Because all four standard Sun configurations share the same 170 mm outside diameter, system designers can scale capacity by changing vessel length rather than redesigning around a different cylinder diameter.
The neck-mount architecture is intended to simplify support and integration where a compact cylindrical package and controlled interface strategy are important.
Operating envelope
Built for demanding pressure and temperature requirements.
Service Temperature
-30°C (-22°F) minimum to 65°C (150°F) maximum.
Short-Duration Excursions
Temperature excursions up to 85°C (185°F) are identified as acceptable for short durations.
Hydrostatic Test Pressure
525 bar / 7,616 psi.
Materials & protection
Type III construction with an aluminum liner and composite shell.
6061-T6 Aluminum Liner
Impermeable metallic liner identified in Steelhead's product data sheet.
Carbon Composite Structure
The structural layer is carbon composite.
External Protective Layer
Fiberglass composites with a clear epoxy coating provide external protection.

Integration options
Adaptable ports, pressure relief and fluid compatibility.
Optional TPRD
A thermal pressure relief device is optional depending on customer requirements. Non-standard threads can accept a TPRD through an adapter.
Custom Threads
Custom valve-thread options up to M25 (1 in) are available upon request.
Allowable Fluids
Any fluid compatible with the liner and seal materials may be stored. Fluid compatibility remains the end user's responsibility.
Engineering support
Need a neck-mounted COPV configuration for your system?
Steelhead can help evaluate volume, vessel length, port threads, TPRD requirements and mounting strategy for your application.
Volume Selection
Compare 6L, 7.5L, 11L and 18L configurations against your available envelope.
Port Configuration
Review standard and custom thread options for valves, plugs and pressure-relief hardware.
Mounting Review
Sun is designed to be neck mounted; other mounting strategies may be considered with Steelhead.
Storage guidance
Protect the vessel from outdoor exposure during storage.
Steelhead's data sheet recommends that vessels not be stored outside. If outdoor storage is unavoidable, the vessel should be covered to protect it from UV light, chemicals and inclement weather.
